What are the differences between cold-rolled C-section steel and hot-rolled C-section steel

Due to the different production processes, there are two types of C-beams, cold-rolled and hot-rolled. So what are the differences between these two C-beams?

First of all, the reasons for the residual stress of hot-rolled C-section steel and cold-rolled C-section steel are different, so the distribution on the cross-section is also very different. The residual stress distribution on the section of cold-formed C-section steel is bending type, while the residual stress distribution on the section of hot-rolled C-section steel or welded section steel is film type.

Secondly, the torsion resistance of hot-rolled C-section steel and cold-rolled C-section steel is different. The free torsional stiffness of hot-rolled C-section steel is higher than that of cold-rolled C-section steel, so the torsion resistance of hot-rolled C-section steel is better than that of cold-rolled C-section steel.

Finally, hot rolled C-beams and cold-formed C-beams have different cross sections. Cold-rolled C-section steel allows local buckling of the section, so that the bearing capacity of the member after buckling can be fully utilized; while hot-rolled C-section steel does not allow local buckling of the section
