If these tools are partially inoperative or damaged, the inspection results become meaningless and fail to effectively monitor product quality. Therefore, proper care and protection of measuring instruments are crucial. Below are several guidelines for maintaining measuring equipment (applicable to commonly used inspection tools):
1. Measuring instruments should be stored in a clean, dry environment, free from vibrations and corrosive gases, and kept away from areas with large temperature fluctuations or strong magnetic fields. The measuring tools stored in the tool box must be clean and dry; no other items are permitted.
2. After using measuring instruments, thoroughly clean any surface dirt and aluminum chips, and loosen all clamping devices. If the instrument will remain idle for an extended period (one month or longer), apply anti-rust oil to the measuring surfaces. When not in use, store the instrument in its protective case, ensure it is operated by designated personnel with appropriate expertise, and maintain records of annual inspections conducted by accredited certification bodies.
3. Do not use oilstones or sandpaper to polish the surfaces of measuring instruments, including the measuring faces and scale lines. Non‑metrology personnel are strictly prohibited from disassembling, modifying, or repairing measuring instruments without authorization.
4. When burrs are present on the workpiece surface, they must be thoroughly removed before taking measurements; otherwise, the measuring instrument may become worn and the accuracy of the measurement results will be compromised.
5. Do not touch the measuring surfaces of measuring instruments with your hands, as sweat and other contaminants can contaminate these surfaces and cause them to rust. Store measuring instruments separately from other tools and metallic objects to prevent damage from impacts.
6. Do not use the tip of the caliper’s measuring jaws as a scriber, compass, or any other tool, and do not manually twist the two jaws or use the instrument as a clamp.
